2012 Pleasant Hill Pinot Noir
Vineyard Notes: Sustainably farmed, cool climate vineyard site. A classic vintage with plenty of foggy mornings, warm sunshiny days, and cool Russian River nights. We harvested the fruit on September 28 and 30.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Aged in 40% new French oak barrels, sur lees. Gorgeous dark cherry in color. Big, luxurious nose of dark, ripe cherry, tangerine, bergamot, and floral notes of rose petal. Secondary hints of orange pekoe tea, Chinese Five Spice and a touch of tarragon. Big, silky flavors of dark cherry and blueberry with afterthoughts of bright pomegranate and tangerine tea, and a big finish of Bing cherry and Baker's chocolate.
2012 Bella Vigna Pinot Noir
Winemaker’s Vineyard Notes: Steeply sloped (think Black Diamond for all your snow skiers), southeastern facing. This vintage pushed the boundaries of my sanity and really only made the move toward the barn in the early part of October. Patience is a virtue. Harvested 10/17.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Stainless steel fermented, 100% French oak-aged in 35% new oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered. Darker color than in years past. Really diverse nose of spicy rhubarb, wild strawberry jam, clove, red meats and what I like to call animale. Secondary aromas of Asian soy, orange pekoe tea, and sage. Ripe flavors of cranberry, rhubarb, dark Bing cherry tea, and baker’s chocolate. Finishes long with Bing cherries, crushed mint candies, and hints of white pepper.
