Our estate Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard is located in the cool Edna Valley of southern San Luis Obispo County. The vineyard is certified biodynamic, a unique method of organic farming, with each wine carrying the Demeter stamp on the label. 100 percent Syrah, this is a blend of five different Syrah clones from three distinct blocks.
The wine was made using traditional techniques, including small open-top fermenters with about 33% whole clusters. It was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, of which about 30% are new oak.
A classic cool climate Syrah, it is savory, spicy, and meaty with a noticeable edginess from the whole clusters. Yet there is elegance. I recommend putting this away for at least 6 months before you think about drinking any...this wine will easily go 10-15 years in the cellar.
Review: Score 90 points - Robert Parker
"Coming from a vineyard located in the southern end of the Edna Valley, just across from Alban Vineyards, the 2012 Syrah Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard is 100% Syrah that saw 17 months in 40% new French oak. It's has a tight, austere style as well as medium-bodied richness, outstanding fruit intensity, and lots of white pepper, black raspberry, bacon fat and hints of olive. It's another classy Syrah from Bob that's stays true to the house style. I suspect it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink nicely through 2027." - Jeb Dunnuck
