Comprised of 100% Syrah from the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley, "Sonnie's" represents a strict selection of the best six barrels from the vineyard each year. The biodynamically farmed vineyard site, planted in 2005, is a cool, Region One growing climate that yields intense, beautifully structured fruit annually. This wine is primarily from one block (conveniently Block One!) and primarily from two selections of Syrah from Alban Vineyard with a little bit of UCD-1 in the mix. About 30% whole clusters were used in the fermenter, and aging was 16 months in Ermitage barrels (50% new).
The 2011 Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard ‘Sonnie’s’ Syrah shows tremendous depth and complexity with an exotic nose and a firm, focused texture. This elite Syrah has a long future ahead. It is named after Bob's mother Sonnie (Sandra Ellen Granger Lindquist), the matriarch of the Lindquist family.

"Inky purple. Smoky cherry, cassis and Indian spices on the nose, with powerful notes of olive, violet and licorice adding complexity. Is this syrah or what? Sweet, mouthfilling and chewy, but with surprising vivacity to its fleshy black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors. Firm and sharply focused on the spice-tinged finish, with chewy tannins adding support and grip." - Josh Reynolds
