2011 Qupé Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard Grenache
Edna Valley

Review: Score - 91 points Vinous

"The 2011 Grenache Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard is gorgeous. Layered, perfumed and silky, the wine impresses for its varietal character and persistent finish. Even though the blend includes 13% Syrah, this is a decidedly delicate Grenache laced with bright floral notes that add lift and brightness, much of which probably comes from the partial use of whole clusters. Drinking window: 2013 - 2019 This set of wines from Qupe and Bob Lindquist is full of highlights. The entry-level reds in particular are impressive and worthy of serious consideration." (7/2013)

Tasting Notes
This wine is 87% Grenache and 13% Syrah from grapes grown at the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the cool Edna Valley. The Grenache portion is 73% Alban clone and 27% Tablas clones. The Syrah portion is from neutral barrels that were selected for our single vineyard Syrah bottling. A little over half of the Grenache was fermented with 33% whole clusters which adds a definite layer of spice and tannin and gives more complexity as the wine ages. All of the Grenache was aged in neutral French oak, on the lees, for 17 months. The Syrah was blended in to the wine just before bottling.
