Fable Mountain Vineyards

Nature always wins. Always. Nowhere is this maxim truer than at Fable Mountain Vineyards. At the foot of the Witzenberg Mountains in poor soils over ancient and solid shale, vines of Syrah, Grenache, and Syrah slowly grow. These vines and farm are tended and protected by a loving and gifted husband and wife in a most remote and magical place. 


The goal is simple: to produce one singular red wine each vintage.


“Blending is one of the most enjoyable and most creative parts of the winemaking process. Every year we are offered fruit from amazing vineyards, each one delivering interesting blending components from different varieties. Fitting these together like a puzzle creates Leviathan. It allows us to push the envelope and try new things. What I love about Leviathan is that, if you look closely, you can pull out the nuances of the individual varieties. But the wine also has a character all its own.” – Andy Erickson, winemaker

A chef, a winemaker, and an entrepreneur have happily collaborated to bring you exuberant and delicious wines. The Marvelous range was borne of our desire to make multi-varietal blends crafted from carefully selected vineyards. The winemaking is very simple, but often this is the most difficult and elusive path to follow. Knowing when not to interfere is what it is all about. 


The jewel in our crown is a hallowed place high atop Mount Veeder.


This place, more than most, we approach with gratitude for things past. Gratitude for the ancient volcanic eruptions that formed these soils. Gratitude for the men who erected the stone winery in 1889. Gratitude for our predecessor, whose winemaking and farming spanned six decades. Here we faithfully strive to be stewards of a great tradition. This place, these age-worthy wines, this powerful elegance, is our responsibility and we humbly share it with you.

To revive and renew a once-iconic place requires vision, perseverance, and a team of people committed to a shared belief. With an infusion of talent and a common goal to produce the finest wines in the Western Cape, the wines, eco-system, and team that makes up Mulderbosch Vineyards is once again at the forefront of South Africa’s burgeoning wine scene. From the freshness and verve of the rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon to the exquisitely crafted Sauvignon Blanc to beautiful Chenin Blancs sourced from old head-trained vines, the estate is crafting wines to be enjoyed, to be regarded, and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the fine wines of the world.

Bob Lindquist has crafted cool-climate wines from California’s Central Coast for more than three decades. His first bottle of Qupé Syrah from the 1982 vintage was a daring feat. At the time, only three producers in California’s history had placed the name Syrah on a bottle. Thirty-two years later, Bob and Qupé are synonymous with cool-climate California Syrah and he is widely recognized as a master of Rhône varieties.

Trinity Hill

Here in the gravelly soil where the Ngaroruro River once ran grows some of the most sublime Syrah in the world.


Trinity Hill’s excellence in the Gimblett Gravels of New Zealand’s Hawkes Bay region is nearing its third decade. Under the watchful eye and knowing hand of founder John Hancock and winemaker Warren Gibson, the quality and integrity of Trinity Hill’s range of wines is peerless.
