"This is a pretty classic bottling of our Central Coast Syrah, our 31st consecutive vintage! The cooler climate grapes lend a savory, spicy character with refreshing acidity and balanced alcohol. The warmer climate grapes give the wine a more forward fruit character and add suppleness and earlier drinkability. This is the first vintage that we have bottled entirely under screw cap. We have been using screw caps on our half bottles for several years with good results. I am a believer in corks and prefer them for wines that you are going to lay down in the cellar but, for wines meant to be enjoyed in their youth, the screw cap is the way to go! This wine will age well (we just recently tried a beautiful 1991) but, save your cellar space for our single vineyard bottlings instead."
- Bob Lindquist, Founder/Winemaker
Mention Syrah and the name Qupé will soon come up. An original Rhône Ranger, veteran winemaker Bob Lindquist was one of the first to advocate American-made Syrah and other Rhône varietals such as Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne. He has been a leader in the movement producing world class editions since the early 1980s. His passion for wine is only equaled by his passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
